Sticky pad

A sticky pad is not absolutely necessary for making perfect scones. It does, however, speed up the time it takes to combine the wet and dry ingredients. With a sticky pad, this takes about half the time.

You may have things around your house that can serve as a sticky pad. For example, a swatch of a rug gripper will work. A sticky pad for holding your phone on a car dashboard will work as well.

I use a textured sticky pad [affiliate link*] I found on Amazon. When I take the bowl with the dry ingredients out of the freezer, I rub the bottom of the bowl a little and place it on top of the sticky pad on my silicone mat or granite countertop.

The sticky pad holds the bowl in place as I mix in the wet ingredients. It frees both hands so that I can squirt the lines of liquid with one hand and mix the liquid into the dry ingredients with the other.
