Butter Cutter

A butter cutter, also known as a pastry cutter, makes incorporating the butter into your dry ingredients quick and easy. It is not, however, the only way do this. It’s just the fastest way to do it.

You can use the tines of a dinner fork to cut the butter into the flour. This will cut the butter into smaller than pea sized chunks and will take significantly longer.

You can also cut the butter into smaller chunks before adding them to the dry ingredients, and then pinch the chunks into the flour. The goal is to have the flour and the butter combine so that the butter doesn’t just melt out of the scones during baking.

Butter cutters are available in supermarkets, specialty cooking stores and online. You can of course find them on Amazon [affiliate link*].
